How to remove audio without re-encoding video

Mute an MP4 without re-encoding the picture and check the resulting video.

Video files can contain separate picture and audio streams. AudioRemover copies the main picture stream into a fresh container and leaves out the audio streams.

How to use it

  1. Choose one MP4, MOV or WebM video. Use a file of 100 MiB or less.
  2. Open Remove audio, choose your video and select “Remove audio.” The browser downloads the processing engine on first use.
  3. Download the silent copy. Open it in your player to confirm the picture plays and the audio is gone.

How to verify the export

We checked this workflow with a 2-second, 320 × 180 H.264 MP4 containing two AAC tracks. The export had no audio streams and kept the source video codec, resolution and duration. You can check these properties in your player’s media information panel.

When to use this method

Use this workflow to silence the video. To save its soundtrack separately, use Extract MP3.
